Written by Dave Lazor | Mon, Apr 07, 2014

As of tomorrow, April 8, Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows XP, Office 2003 and Exchange Server 2003.

We’ve reached out to our affected customers directly, but we strongly encourage you to share this link via email or social media because the security and privacy implications of this event are significant.  If your business runs Windows XP, you must take action now to protect yourself. Here are some tips to help you make an intelligent and informed decision.

This event has gotten a lot of attention from the media, so you’re likely aware of the basic facts. Here are details on how the end of Windows XP support will affect your business infrastructure:

  • SECURITY
The end of support means end of security updates, which leaves your system vulnerable to viruses, spyware, and other malware that could steal or damage your business data.
  • SOFTWARE
Software upgrades (e.g., on your accounting software or ERP) may not run well, or run at all because the software is not supported for use on older operating systems and machines.
  • SUPPORT
IT services providers will do their best to support your systems, but they will no longer have access to support from partners, so issue resolutions will be slower and more challenging.
  • SYSTEM
The risks of downtime, system failure and business disruption will escalate due to the end of support, lack of supported software and the aging hardware that’s still running Windows XP.
